I grew up in Wisconsin, a state known for its love of football and its reputation for great tailgating, so when our son chose Ole Miss as his college destination I felt well prepared - excited even- to attend games, and of course, to tailgate.

Two years and several games later I'm here to tell you, there ain't no party like an SEC party! There is a reason Sports Illustrated dubbed The Grove "The Holy Grail of Tailgating".

If you haven’t experienced The Grove at Ole Miss, you haven’t truly tailgated. Picture a 10-acre spread on the University of Mississippi campus, where the trees are lush, the fans are rowdy, and the food is, well, SEC-worthy. On game days, The Grove transforms into a sea of tents, red-and-blue decor, and endless Southern hospitality. Fans here aren’t just rooting for a team—they’re partaking in a legendary ritual, complete with chandeliers, elaborate spreads, and an unbreakable rule: “We may lose the game, but we never lose the party.”

Tailgating here isn’t about your usual burgers and beers. Think finger sandwiches, fried chicken, deviled eggs, and enough pimento cheese (mmm, my favorite!) to satisfy all of Vaught-Hemingway Stadium. And don’t forget to “Hotty Toddy” (I'll cover that in another blog) with your neighbors—you’ll for sure leave with new friends and unforgettable memories.

Whether you’re a Rebel fan or not, The Grove is an experience worth the trip to Oxford. Come for the game, stay for the atmosphere, and leave a fan of something Ole Miss!

Who's Your Favorite Mississippian?

By Stefanie D.

“Visit Oxford, MS: Where the Past Meets Pop Culture”

If you’re looking for the perfect Southern getaway, let me introduce you to Oxford, Mississippi—a town that’s as charming as it is rich in history, culture, and believe it or not, celebrity connections! Yes, this cozy little slice of Mississippi has been home (or neighbor) to some of the biggest names in Hollywood, sports, and music. So while you’re strolling through The Square or catching a game at Ole Miss, imagine a place where William Faulkner’s literary legacy mingles with the star power of some of the nation’s top entertainers.

Did you know Mississippi has produced an impressive lineup of stars? Picture this: Elvis Presley and Oprah Winfrey both hail from the Magnolia State. That’s right, the King of Rock and Roll and the Queen of Talk Shows share Mississippi roots! Not to mention Morgan Freeman, Britney Spears, Faith Hill, and even the hilarious Jim Henson, creator of the Muppets. Oxford itself might be a bit quieter than Hollywood, but it’s no stranger to iconic figures.

Who’s your favorite Mississippian? I’ll go first. My favorite Mississippian is Jimmy Buffett!

  1. Elvis Presley – The King. Enough said.
  2. Oprah Winfrey – Media mogul, philanthropist, and legend.
  3. Morgan Freeman – With that iconic voice, you can almost hear him narrate Oxford’s history.
  4. Britney Spears – Pop princess with Southern roots.
  5. Faith Hill – Country superstar with a voice as warm as a Mississippi afternoon.
  6. Jim Henson – Because every trip needs a little Muppet magic.
  7. B.B. King – Blues legend whose influence still echoes in every note.
  8. Sela Ward – The actress and Southern belle.
  9. James Earl Jones – Darth Vader and the voice of CNN. Enough said.
  10. LeAnn Rimes – Country music’s prodigy turned powerhouse.
  11. Brandy – Singer, actress, and 90s icon.
  12. Jimmy Buffett – Margaritaville's own with roots in Pascagoula.
  13. John Grisham – Best-selling author, and yes, he spent time in Oxford!
  14. Parker Posey – Indie film queen with unmistakable style.
  15. Eudora Welty – Pulitzer Prize-winning author and Mississippi gem.
  16. Lacey Chabert – From Mean Girls to Hallmark movies, she’s everywhere!
  17. Bo Diddley – Rock and Roll Hall of Famer.
  18. Lance Bass – *NSYNC’s boy band heartthrob.
  19. Jerry Rice – NFL’s greatest wide receiver (and Mississippian).
  20. Chris LeDoux – Rodeo champion and country musician.
  21. Tammy Wynette – The first lady of country music.
  22. Cat Cora – Celebrity chef with Southern flair.
  23. Paul Maholm – MLB pitcher.
  24. Ruthie Bolton – WNBA star.
  25. Muddy Waters – Blues pioneer.

Stroll around The Square, sample local delicacies like chicken and waffles, and experience live music as a tribute to these stars. And if you’re lucky, you might just feel the spirit of Elvis or see a hint of Faulkner’s world in the sights around you.

So, who’s your favorite Mississippi-born celebrity? Let us know in the comments below. We look forward to seeing you in The Sip soon!

Ole Miss Rebels Storm Georgia, Twice!

By Stefanie D.

When it comes to college football, Oxford, Mississippi, has always been a special kind of wild. But Last Saturday, the Ole Miss Rebels kicked it up a notch (or ten) with their epic victory over the Georgia Bulldogs, shaking up the SEC and putting Oxford in the spotlight!

This game had everything. Some scary moments when Jaxon Dart got banged up, rain, and even a squirrel on the field! Wonder how it got in there…for the second home game in a row?

Fans were so excited about this win they didn’t just storm the field after the game; they stormed it twice. Yes, you read that right. And to celebrate that powerful winning energy, fans tore down the goalposts and took them on a stroll right through The Square, giving Ole Miss the ultimate victory lap.

Oxfordians take their football seriously, and their tailgating even more seriously. The win over 2nd ranked Georgia Bulldogs was the perfect blend of Southern hospitality, football fever, and Rebel spirit. Not only does this victory move Ole Miss up into playoff contention, it’s a win that will go down in Ole Miss history.

So, if you’re craving a college football experience with a side of Southern charm and a dash of “did that really just happen?” – Oxford, MS, is where you want to be. Next time, don’t miss out on the madness! Come to the Sip. Stay in Your Happy Place!
